Kedainiai factory was built in 1970 in geographical centre of Lithuania – town of Kedainiai. The sugar beets are supplied by approximately 613 beet growers and conveyed to the site by lorries or tractors. Around 204 truckloads of beets are delivered to factory every day, which equals to almost 277,669 tonnes of sugar beet during a campaign, that are turned into sugar. Our main product is granulated sugar but we also produce feed products from the beet fibres left once the sugar has been extracted.Our entire annual sugar production is achieved during a three-month period, called the campaign, extending up to 80 days from end-September to early December when the facility operates around the clock, seven days a week. The facility has a daily processing capacity of 4,800 tonnes of beet.
The site produces annually (approximately):
- 46,000 tonnes of sugar (2007/08))
Feed products: - 9,500 tonnes of molasses and (2007/08)
- 9,000 tonnes of unmolassed sugar beet pellets (2007/08)
- 6,000 tonnes of pressed beet pulp (2007/08)
The granulated sugar is sold to the retail market under the Dansukker ® brand in 1-kilo packages and to industry in 50-kilo bags and in bulk.
The site employs around 211 people but is expanded by a temporary labour force of 116 people during the beet campaign. The majority of our employees work in the production e.g. as machine operators, process operators, service engineers (within electrical maintenance or automation) and in the laboratory. Child care and education
The town offers child-care facilities. There are about seven kindergartens in Kedainiai and eight kindergartens in the region. There are also about nine schools of secondary education and 19 schools of primary education as well as one language college.
Leisure and culture
The town provides sports facilities such as outdoor sports grounds and sports centres, and it is possible to play football with the famous team Nevezys. Tennis fans may find tennis courts at a convenient distance from the centre of the town. Also, you may find one leisure centre and several restaurants for spending leisure time. Furthermore, you find no less than seven nature reserves in Kedainiai and the surrounding region. There are about three museums, several estates and some ancient monuments in Kedainiai (e.g. a minaret).
