Blanka Valusova, Site ManagerThe site
The plant runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week and produces Pectin. The site is also a logistics centre and employs a total of some 100 people.History
The plant was built in 1980-1984 to meet the pectin need of the Czechoslovakian market. The main raw material was apple pomace imported from Hungary and Poland. Danisco took over the plant in 1995, introduced citrus peel as the main raw material and gradually multiplied the production capacity.Local community & environment
Smirice is a small community with a population of around 3,000. Danisco is the biggest employer in Smirice and good relations with the local community are essential to us. This includes communicating with local politicians and committees on environmental and technical issues. We support local cultural activities (the reconstruction of a unique baroque church in Smirice, a music festival in the local church), have a joint fire brigade with Smirice and support the local primary school (help with the reconstruction of the school playground).
Smirice is located 15 km away from the district town of Hradec Kralove. The town offers a rich cultural life (district theatre, concert hall, exhibitions, museums), good education opportunities (several secondary schools, three universities) and sports and leisure activities (two ice halls, two swimming pools, open-air lakes and bike trails 5-15 minutes away from the town and a ski area 50-80 km from the town).Location
Smirice is located in the northeast of the Czech Republic, 120 km away from the capital of Prague and 15 km away from the district town of Hradec Kralove.Links
