The site
Genencor (Wuxi) Bio-Products is a Danisco's enzyme production base for the China and Asia-Pacific market.
The entire China Company employs approximately 200 people with about 165 at the facility in Wuxi.
At the present time a new facility is being constructed in the Wuxi New District (30 km east of the current site) to replace the current site. The new high tech production facility will be operational in late 2006 with the shut down of the current site occurring simultaneously.
In addition to production the new site will have a regional warehouse (As-Pac) and an applications lab to serve customers for all of Danisco's enzyme markets.
History
In 1998, Genencor International joint ventured with the Wuxi Enzyme Factory (WEF) and renamed the company to Genencor (Wuxi) Bio-Products Co., Ltd.
Genencor Wuxi’s past can be traced back to 1965, when China state-owned factory, Wuxi Alcohol Factory cooperated with the Beijing Microbe Research Institute (along with other) to develop and produce a enzyme that is similar to our current Optimalt BBA product.
Local community & environment
As part of our belief in contributing to the community we serve, we have:
- Developed cooperative working relationships with local authorities, institutes and universities.
- Participated as a standing committee member of China Fermentation Industrial Council, a member of the China Cleaning and Detergent Association and a member of the Starch Industry Association.
- An open door policy for open house events and tours for employees and families, local businesses, and associations.
- Established internships, learning opportunities and a scholarship program with the local university (Southern Yangtze University).
Location
Wuxi is a city of about 5 million people located 120 kilometers northeast of Shanghai in the Province of Jiangsu. The city is located near Taihou lake which is one of the largest fresh water lakes in China. The area is famous for its scenic beauty and has become s favorite tourist spot with its many parks and gardens.
Due to the abundance of skilled labor and favorable Government policies many International companies such as Sony, Seagate and Siemens and now Danisco have located their China manufacturing in the Industrial Parks located in and around Wuxi.
