Danisco is a modern company focused on meeting the ingredient needs of today’s society, but also boasts a rich history of experience and contributions.
A long history of excellence
Danisco's history reaches as far back as 1872 and 1881, when Danish Sugar and Danish Distillers, respectively, were established. Dansk Handels-og Industri-Compagni (A/S Danisco) was founded in 1934 as a conglomerate with activities in various industries.
In 1989, the three companies merged under the name of Danisco. Today, Danisco focuses exclusively on ingredients, including sweeteners and sugar for the food and beverage industry, and on animal nutrition. These products help give food better taste, nutritional value, texture, appearance, and shelf life.
Expanding into biotechnology and industrial enzymes
With the acquisition of Genencor in 2005, Danisco expanded its position as a leading supplier of food ingredients and diversified into the growing industrial biotechnology market. With the acquisition, Danisco became the second largest supplier of industrial enzymes in the world.
