Across both geographies, a number of our executives play active roles in industry associations at the country and state levels. We are also active in organizations focused on the cleaning industry and the enzyme industry.
Genencor executives partner with related associations and governmental policymakers to promote creation of a responsible, eco-friendly biobased economy.
Genencor executives hold a number of leadership positions in industry and trade organizations in the United States and Europe. This activity not only supports Genencor’s strategic business objectives, but promotes the benefits of industrial biotechnology and the creation of a biobased economy.
United States activities
The United States has made considerable developments in the past several years in national policymaking, including the enactment of the Sustainability Fuels and Chemicals Act. Genencor executives work closely with the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) to encourage adoption of a biobased economy. Company executives regularly testify before Congress and interact with policymakers regarding the benefits and technological aspects of a biobased energy sources.
European Union activities
In the European Union (EU), our executives work closely with EuropaBio, the EU’s biotechnology industry association, to inform policymakers at European institutions. As a result, industrial biotechnology was included as an enabling tool in the Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP), and recommendations to promote the development of biobased markets were recently supported in the mid-term review of the European Commission's 2002-2010 Biotechnology Strategy, presented on April 11, 2007.
Through our years of involvement, we have seen a significant increase in awareness of how industrial biotechnology can contribute to sustainable development.
