Our products already add value to industries ranging from food to fuel to textiles.  And the range of industries using our enzymes to improve product value and production efficiency expands everyday. For example, the chemical industry increasingly looks to industrial biotechnology, because we’ve shown ability to reduce the environmental impact of chemical production.

Adding value without extra cost

This continuous increase in biotech applications stems from our commitment to developing and improving biobased products and processes. Our enzyme products offer economically viable and environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional practices in industrial sectors as various as detergents, fuel, biodefense, and food.

Serving industrial manufacturers around the world

Genencor biotechnology products and processes are already at work throughout the world in an incredible range of global industries and companies, including:

• Chemicals. In conjunction with DuPont™, we developed a higher-quality, biodegradable polyester, Sorona® . With Eastman Chemical, we’ve found a way to make ascorbic acid (vitamin C) from glucose refined from corn.
• Consumer products. In this sector, our enzymes significantly improve performance of an ever-broadening range of consumer products from toothpastes to dishwasher detergents to high-powered protein removers.
• Detergent manufacturers. If you do laundry, most likely you’ve used a Genencor product. Our enzymes are found in a variety of liquid and powder laundry detergents, including many Procter & Gamble brands, to make your clothes cleaner and brighter without added chemicals.
• Feed. Genencor enzymes make livestock feed more nutritious and economical to provide better value for farmers.
• Food. If you eat ice cream, drink soda, or sweeten your coffee, probably one of our enzyme products provided the natural flavor enhancers. We’re also working with leading food manufacturers on ways to produce novel ingredients, such as vitamin enhancers, anti-staling enzymes, and natural plant proteins.
• Fuel ethanol producers. We’ve already tripled goals specified in a contract with the US Department of Energy to lower costs associated with producing ethanol fuel. Now, we’re partnering with Mascoma of Cambridge, MA to further continue this work in renewable fuels. Mascoma is building a $20 million demonstration facility to develop and produce cellulosic ethanol. Genencor will provide the advanced enzyme systems for the facility.Our success in producing low-cost, high-yield ethanol would greatly expand market opportunities for farmers and allow ethanol to replace gasoline as a renewable and environmentally friendly fuel source.
• Grain processing. Grain millers use our enzymes to convert starch-containing grains, such as corn, wheat, and tapioca, into value-added food and industrial ingredients. We also provide our clients with technical support to maximize results in their operations.
• Safety and protection. In partnership with the US Army, Genencor developed decontamination enzymes to quickly, safely, and effectively break down life-threatening chemical and biological warfare agents. With the United Kingdom’s Health Protection Agency, Genencor developed a revolutionary enzyme-based technology for use in prion decontamination.
  
• Textiles chemical formulators. No matter which designer brand of stonewashed blue jeans you prefer, most likely the great fashion looks and high-quality denim you demand were made possible by Genencor enzymes. Our textile enzymes not only protect fabric quality from harsh processing chemicals, they also provide a wide variety of appealing finishes.
• Wastewater treatment. Genencor’s years of experience producing enzymes for use in wastewater treatment help treatment facilities increase water quality, decrease costs, reduce environmental impact, and achieve other desired results.
