Scientist II, Microbial Physiology/Enzymology

USA, California, Palo Alto

The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists, focused on the understanding and controlling microbial physiology for the production of chemical products.

We are looking for a star performer interested in working with a motivated group of biochemists, molecular biologists, and biochemical engineers to dissect, understand and control metabolic processes for the conversion of renewable resources to commodity chemicals. You must have a hands-on familiarity of protein purification, enzyme kinetics, metabolite purification and identification, and microbial physiology. You will also participate in evaluating and incorporating the latest techniques in the cross-disciplinary field of Metabolic Pathway Engineering. The work will also involve the participation in the design and implementation of protein engineering efforts to enhance metabolic performance. The successful candidate must work well within a team and have a track record of working in collaborative environments. A high focus will be placed on high throughput methods and their application to large scale screening for new pathway enzymes with defined physical and kinetic properties.

You are an outstanding Scientist with the following attributes:

    • PhD in Biochemistry, Enzymology, Biophysics, Chemistry or an allied discipline with a background experience in molecular biology
    • Completed postdoctoral fellowship or allied experience.
    • Understanding and experience in pathway engineering programs would be a plus.
    • Ability to excel in a collaborative environment.
    • Excellent communication skills and the desire to work within a multidisciplinary team are also required.
    • The successful candidate must be motivated, creative, have strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, and be capable of working independently or in a collaborative setting.
