Danisco in collaboration with DONG Energy on second generation bioethanolDanisco’s enzymes division, Genencor, and energy provider DONG Energy are entering into collaboration on the production of second generation bioethanol. Together with DONG Energy, Statoil and AgBioEnergy, Genencor is applying for public subsidies to establish a demonstration plant. Genencor will be supplying enzymes to the demonstration plant, which will be located near Kalundborg, Denmark. Danisco thereby participates in one of the leading development centres for second generation bioethanol in Europe. The plant is scheduled to come on stream by the climate summit in 2009 and will be handling four tonnes of straw an hour, corresponding to a production of 4,500 tonnes of bioethanol annually. Through our collaboration with DONG Energy and partners we hope to speed up the availability of biofuels in Europe and to be able to contribute to the EU’s binding goals for 10% renewable biofuels by 2020. ’We look forward to becoming an enzymes supplier and are pleased to participate in a project that will reinforce Denmark’s position as one of the leading countries in the world within alternative energy.
