Genencor Applauds Congress for Passage of Farm Bill
Provisions will accelerate commercialization of advanced biofuels
Genencor applauds the passage of the Farm Bill by the U.S. House yesterday and U.S. Senate today. The Farm Bill includes provisions which will encourage more rapid development of advanced biofuels. Genencor Chief Executive Officer, Tjerk de Ruiter, issued the following statement:
“With passage of this bill, the United States continues to demonstrate its commitment to renewable energy. These provisions will allow our industry to rapidly achieve the commercialization of low-carbon biofuels through both the construction of large-scale biorefineries and in ongoing research and development of enzymes and other biorefinery processes.
“The cellulosic biofuels tax credit, loan guarantees and Biomass Crop Assistance Program will help farmers, biotechnology companies and producers to deploy technology for turning crop residues and dedicated energy crops from non-food feedstocks into renewable energy.
“The farm bill energy title will ensure that the United States can produce both food and fuel in abundance.”
On May 14, Genencor announced that it entered a 50/50 joint venture with DuPont for development and deployment of cellulosic ethanol. For more information go to www.dupontdanisco.com.
