Moving to green, clean fuel
In 2000, Genencor was awarded a $17 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to develop low-cost cellulases and other enzymes for the production of ethanol from biomass - unused crop and other plant material.
Ethanol fuel produced from starch or biomass provides high-performance and is clean-burning and eco-friendly.
A renewable, biobased solution
We are committed to moving beyond reliance on petroleum to a bio-based economy. We envision a future in which biotechnology produces green, clean fuels, chemicals, and other materials and where biorefineries take their place alongside oil refineries. Our success in producing low-cost, high-yield ethanol will greatly expand market opportunities for farmers and allow ethanol to replace gasoline as a renewable and environmentally friendly fuel source.
