Genencor launches three new Accellerase® enzyme products for cellulosic ethanol process development

Palo Alto, CA – April 21, 2009 – Today, Genencor, a division of Danisco, launched three new products for its Accellerase® enzyme product line. The news comes on the heels of the introduction of Accellerase® 1500 enzyme complex, the latest version of Genencor’s flagship enzyme product for 2nd generation ethanol and other biochemicals.

Accellerase® XY, XC, and BG are accessory enzyme products for small-scale process development that enhance ethanol production from  agricultural and forestry residues, paper pulp, sugarcane bagasse, corn  stover and cob, wheat straw, wood chips, waste paper, energy crops such as switchgrass, and many other biomass feedstocks.

“As the first company to launch a reliable commercial-scale  enzyme product for making cellulosic ethanol, Genencor continues to fast-track the technology,” says Philippe Lavielle, Genencor’s Executive Vice President of Business Development. “Last month we launched our Accellerase® 1500 product for enhanced performance at a significantly lower cost. Now, we introduce three new products to increase options for process developers. Accellerase® XY and XC enzymes are designed as accessory enzymes to blend with whole cellulases, such as Accellerase® 1500. Accellerase® BG enzyme can be used to supplement enzyme complexes for improved beta-glucosidase activity for improved hydrolysis outcomes. The products are commercially available and increase process performance, flexibility and versatility in a variety of applications.

Brief product descriptions:

• Accellerase® XY accessory xylanase enzyme complex enhances both xylan (C5) and glucan (C6) conversion when blended with other  Accellerase® enzyme products.
• Accellerase® XC accessory xylanase/cellulase enzyme complex contains a broad profile of hemicellulase and cellulase activities and enhances both xylan (C5) and glucan (C6) conversion when blended with other Accellerase® enzyme products.
• Accellerase® BG accessory beta-glucosidase enzyme enhances glucan (C6) conversion when blended with cellulase products.
